Making money online is a big mystery to a lot of people who don't know how money exchanges hands on the Internet. "How will I get paid?" is a common question.

Want to make money online, but confused about how you will get paid? There are a few things you should know before you jump into any business.

Whether you have your own business, or if you are selling products for others, (as in network marketing or MLM), you need a "Merchant Account" which is a service which allows you to accept credit cards. The merchant account is connected to a page on your web site which is an "order page" where your customer can pay you by credit card.

To make money online you need this service. It is how money exchanges hands on the Internet, via credit and debit cards. You need you own merchant account to process the cards and get paid.

If you are expecting to make money online in an MLM or network marketing company, your company may process all the orders for you. Often they have their own "corporate" merchant account connected to the web site which they give you to market their opportunity and products. In that case, you have convenience, but not control.

The advantage of having your own merchant account to make money online, if you are working with a company which allows you to have it (some don't) is that you are handling the money. That means that you are getting paid first, and then you give the company their portion.

If you must use the company-provided merchant account, then you will be in the position of having to wait for your money. So the issue will be how often they pay. Do they pay every week, month, quarter? And what is their accounting period? For example, do they pay for sales made in the previous week, or is there a delay? Some companies hold the money for several weeks or months for it to "clear" before paying their consultants. Also, when you money online with your company's corporate merchant account, there is a question of what method they will use to pay you. What system does the company have to get the money to you? Do they send a check? Direct deposit? PayPal?

There are so many different ways which you can be paid. Many Internet business owners get discouraged because of the long delay between when they make their money and when they receive their funds.

So, before deciding on working with a network marketing, MLM or other company to make money online, ask the question of who will receive the money and how you will get paid. Make sure you are comfortable with the answer.

If you want to make money writing for children, then becoming a children's author is a great place to start.

How To Make Money With Your Passions

To make money online many people jump right in before they are properly prepared. You know that to be a rocket scientist, a doctor, a brick layer, a construction worker, an office worker, a teacher there are prerequisites, things you must learn, before you can be successful, you don't just jump right in unprepared.

The same applies to the Internet marketing industry even though there are unsavory people out there who'd have you believe it's a "Walk in the Park" and requires no more than the belief that you can just do it.

And I'll have to admit, it is a walk in the park compared to what you have to put up with in the working world punching a clock being a subordinate to someone who does not have your interests in mind, but there are still rules you have to follow and pitfalls you must avoid to actually make Internet marketing work for you.

Most people will not make a dime online and yet there are others who will make more in one month than most people make in a whole year. Why is that?

My answer begins with the age-old chicken or egg question, "what comes first the chicken or the egg"? Personally I vote for, well never mind, each argument you or I make comes back to the same old conclusion - I have no clue and I don't think many of us do either.

But one thing I do have a clue about and know for sure is that to make money online you must first have Passion for the company products and/or service of any Internet business from which you expect to make money.

Passion in this sense simply means that you've researched and like the company and products or services. It is then that you translate that like (or Passion) into the education, excitement and work that usually accompany Passion.

I will have to say that many online entrepreneurs are so good at what they do that they ignore passion because they can sell anything. But I'm concerned about those of you who are not so knowledgeable at working an online business successfully.

Now, I'm not trying to make anyone believe that Passion is the only thing necessary. Because to be successful you must also have a good website, good marketing, widespread advertising, company support, effective keywords, and etc. Those things are often learned from the company you join - but sidestep Passion and you reduce your chances for success dramatically.

It therefore follows that, if you have no Passion for the company and the products and services provided by that company, again, you won't attempt to do the work you are being taught.

Then there are retail outlets, promotional events, and any number of "Now That's What I Call Industrial Goth Electro-Tribal #45" compilations that individuals or small companies might want to create and sell, just because there's a market they understand better than anyone else. Of course, this immediately upsets the rights owners, who retain their deathly fear of anyone smarter than they getting an even break. In a sane world, they'd be offering the above services themselves - imagine logging onto the RIAA website, composing a playlist of 1950s big band music and having Aunty Ethel receive her birthday CD in the post, nicely packaged and produced, two days later. All the problems in doing this are rights-related, and the rights owners are in a terrific position to solve those problems.

They won't do it - and to be honest, I'd rather they didn't - but they should get out of the way of companies like Spotify or last.fm - anyone who has a demonstrable love of music and understands consumers - who can create entirely new markets. And doing new things, not trying to emulate the old, is the only way that the industry as a whole will grow to the advantage of all.

Everyone wants more money; “hey” I am no different to you. We all want a holiday to that tropical island, a new sports car, the new home so your family can live more comfortably or even just some extra cash to help out from week to week.

I have had many traditional businesses over the years both as an independent and as a franchise, some with outstanding success and some not so great. So I am very qualified on the ups and the downs of business, as they say adversity is a fantastic teacher (if you are prepared to analyze what happened, both good and bad).

Being fairly young when I started my first business I sort of just fell into it, I finished my apprenticeship and it was just a natural progression into owing a business in that industry. But it wasn’t till many years (my 3rd business) later that I had the opportunity to step back and have a good look around and ask myself some very good questions like

1. What did I want to do?
2. What could I do?
3. What opportunity’s existed?

These experiences gave me a fantastic insight into what to look for in future endeavors.

1. Like did I need any special training? Or do I already have the skills.
2. Cost of the new business verse the dollar return.
3. Can I be happy doing this?
4. Work from home or a commercial property?
5. Does it fit in with my family and life style?

And for years I knew that was where my future business opportunities lay, all I had to do was to find something that I loved and could throw myself into.
